say, “Money buys everything, money will solve all our problems.”
Do you know that the statement “money is the answer for everything” is found in the Bible?
“A feast is made for laughter, wine makes life merry, and money is the answer for everything” (Ecclesiastes 10:19).
It is true in our earthly existence money plays such a major role. We cannot do much without it, whether it is for food, shelter, clothing, education, transport, utilities or buying stuff like a car, TV or handphone.
Furthermore, “The wealth of the rich is their fortress; the poverty of the poor is their destruction” (Proverbs 10:15).
These two verses tell us the important role money plays on earth and its ability to provide us security the same way a fortress would. Or so it seems …
Yet money is not the answer for everything:
Money can buy us a bed but not restful sleep.
Money can buy us a house but not a peaceful, harmonious home.
Money can buy us sexual services but not love.
Money can buy us a luxury watch but cannot determine the duration of our time on earth.
Money can buy us fawning adoration but not genuine loyalty and respect.
Money can buy us freedom from prison (bail us out) but not redeem our soul from hell.
Money can buy us a gold-studded coffin but not a place in heaven.
In fact, wealth is useless in the afterlife. It is only relevant in the ‘here and now’. On judgment day, all our riches are utterly useless if we have only used it to please ourselves and have not lived a righteous life.
“Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death” (Proverbs 11:4).
