SHOULD WE MAKE RESOLUTIONS?

Just because we fail to keep our New Year’s resolutions, does it mean we should not make them?

Some think that we should not make resolutions – just as we should not swear.

It’s not that we should not make resolutions ... just because we fail to keep them. Having a goal or objective is better than none at all. If we have no direction in life, we will be drifting like flotsam in the sea.

Besides making resolutions such as exercising more, losing weight, spending more time with our loved ones, improving ourselves professionally or reducing our debts, we should also focus on higher, nobler objectives.

We should seek God for that purpose and calling He has determined for our lives and strive to live by it in His strength:

God has a plan for our lives:
     “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
      before you were born I set you apart;
      I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).

Seek God’s wisdom concerning His plan for our lives this New Year:
      “Trust in the Lord with all your heart
        and lean not on your own understanding;
        in all your ways submit to him,
        and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

 Seek His strength to live by it:
        “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
         They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
         they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Happy and Blessed New Year.

"God's divine power has given us everything we need for life and for godliness. This power was given to us through knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and integrity" (2 Peter 1:3).
